This weekend the BIG FREEZE 5 at the G – A FightMND event will be on the SuperUtes Grid at Winton Motor Raceway with Jeff Watters.
“I’m running the #94 Ford Ranger SuperUte owned and prepared by Ranger Racing with the FIightMND BIG FREEZE 5 at the G on board,” Watters told Velocity Magazine today. “I’m looking forward to this challenge but I will have a steep learning curve as I’m yet to drive the Ute.”
Watters has a been a long time supporter of the FightMND charity with his Aussie Racing Car carrying the FightMND “It takes people” message for a couple of years running.
FightMND was established with the purpose of finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. What FightMND has done since 2014 is be the voice, and the guiding star for Australians who want to fight ‘The Beast’. The horrible and debilitating disease gradually takes away the patient’s use of their arms and legs, their ability to eat and swallow, their speech and ultimately their ability to breathe…all in an average timeframe of just 27 months.
“I’ve done a lap or two around Winton in the old traction engine days. (I’m) Hoping that the SuperUte will be similar to the Future Tourer I drove years ago – will be interesting to see how quick I come to grips with it.” said Watters.
The ECB SuperUtes are on new tyres and have a lower ride height this weekend so the “playing field” will be a bit more level without teams having any experience with the new set up.
The Truck Assist Winton Supercars SuperSprint gets underway this Friday, the SuperUtes hit the track at 9.25am for their practice, the weekend includes a qualifying run and three races for the class. Keep an eye on Velocity Magazines website and Facebook pages as we will have updates from the event and how Jeff is going in the SuperUtes.
